The Mayor of Chicago, Illinois, thinks that more kids should be singing and dancing. Mayor Rahm Emanuel recently announced that he wants students to have two hours of arts education each week. The plan includes art, music, drama, and dance classes. Supporters say classes in the arts help boost creativity and keep students more focused in school. But critics of the plan say cash - strapped schools can't afford to add these classes. In fact, many schools are cutting them. Many people argue that subjects like math and English are more important than art and music, which kids can do after school. What do YOU think?

I think math and English is more important because if kids don't study those two subjects they won't get a good college nor a good job.
I think that we should be able to have Art and Music classes becuase kids enjoy them and it is a fun activity for children to do. To many kids Art or Music is their favorite subject. It these classes got cut then the kids wouldn't be able to have something to look forward to at school.
I think all of those subjects are equally important. I think it would be nice to have an art and music class after school.
I think kids can do art and music after school but music is important because if like your in band otr orchestra then it's important and some people don't have time for stuff after school.
I think music and art are cool but I dont think kids need art and music classes alot. For the future I think math and English and other important classes like social studies, are more important. If a school can afford art and music they can if they want to. Otherwise I dont think art and music are necessary.
I think that math and english is more imporant than art and dancing and singing because math you will need alot more in your life than dancing and art
I think kids should do art and music because it is helping alot so when you grow up and want to be a musician or an artist you will be great at it.It is also fun to learn.
I think that they should just stick with math and English because like they said schools can't afford that.
I think that there should be art and music classes because I think that it is an important subject to get into. If there are art and music classes then kids will learn AND have fun. I also think that math and english are important too because those are the subjects they will NEED in life or when they grow up. I don't think that giving more math and english after school is a good idea because after school activities should be fun and relaxing. So, I think that art and music is a better choice for after school activities.
I don't think they should require art and music classes because a lot of kids do not want to do it. If kids want to sign up for something let them sign up, don't force them to do something they don't want to do.
What i think about this is is YES!!!!!!!! when I lived in GA, There was a art class, a music class, music tech, drama, and many after school clubs. so when i moved here to WA, i was surprised about the amount of things you couldn't do. :( I am glad that parents can volenteer their time and teach art once a month. but i think there should be more after school activities and art and music education. when i do those kind of things, for me, it lowers my stress and i am able to concentrate and pay atention instead of dosing off....
I think that they should do fundraiser for art and music classes so they can get the money to buy the supplies.
I think we should not have music and art after school cause some student dont have time after this kind of stuff
I think it's important to have arts in are life. If people don't like the idea of having art classes it can be optional as a class. I think learning the same stuff everyday gets boring after a while so why not have music now and then like every other day or once a week.
