Should Cities Have Curfews for Kids?

Heading to a friend's house tonight?  If you live in certain cities and towns, you'll have to make sure you're home by curfew.  Hundreds of US cities have laws that require kids to be home by a certain time at night, unless they're with an adult.  In Drew, Ohio, city officials recently changed the curfew to one of the earliest in the nation: 8pm.  The law there applies to kids aged 17 and younger.  Supporters of curfew laws say these rules keep kids safe and cut down on crimes committed by young people.  Opponents say parents, not the local government, should decide how late their kids can stay outside.  What do YOU think?

I think that there shouldn;t be any curfew for kids because I think that it is up to the childs parent(s) to decide weather they can be outside or not during a certain time. Yeah sure, some parents arent the best in the world and wont make the best decitions for their children but I think that alot of parents want to look after their children and if they think that their child can handle themselves outside during a certain time, then they should let their child do so. The local government shouldn't have any say about what parents let their children do or not do.

8pm Is way too early, I think thats ridiculous! Parents SHOULD decide their kids' curfew instead of the law.

I think this is a bad idea. I believe the parents should decide how late their kids can stay out. I can understand why they are setting these curfews, What I'm trying to say is let the parents be responsible for their children, not the government.

I don't think the government should set our curfews. You can't really tell people when to go to sleep and even if i had a curfew i would want my parents to set my curfew.

Yes I think we should have curfews for when kids under 17 have to be home by. I've read many stories about how 16 year olds go to parties late at night then they get drunk and get into a car accident and die. Plus if they're home at let's say 10 then they'll still have time to do stuff until they go to bed at around 10:45. So I think we should have a curfew for when we need to be home. But it should be at like 10ish.

I think that kids should not have curfews because the government shouldn't set curfews for children that are not theirs. Also, I think that parents should tell their children when to come back from outside(NOT THE GOVERNMENT). Parents can take care of their own children.

So let me give an example of how this would be like if the law decides what time kids have to go home. "Mother, I'm going to my friend's house for a sleepover" See that sentence? Now if he left at 7 P.M and the walk might take an hour and he already made it to his friend's house, wouldn't that be a waste of time. Not to mention, the government is not really our parents.

I think obama should pick the unsafe cities and then set the law on the unsaf cities.

i think that 8pm is too early and the kids parents or guardian should make the kids curfew.

I think that kids shouldn't have curfews actually because if they wanted to spend time with their family at night or spend the night at a friends house they probably can't since the curfew or even if they wanted to watch a tv show.

I don't think that there should be a curfew for kids because thats too controling. I don't think that the city officials shoul dbe able to control any child's curfew. Some kids don't do anything bad late at night and it wouldn't be fair to them if they put up this curfew. I think that the parents should decide the curfew for their children.

i think that they should get rid of the that law because some kids have to study for a test and they want to work with a friend or they have a reahersal for a play they're doing. THis law might keep kids from getting a better grade.

Yes I do think they should have curfews for when kids need to be home. I think 10 would be good. I've read a lot of stories about how High schoolers are out late then someone gets mugged, injured, or killed. So i think I've proved my point. If they get home at 10 they still have time to talk to their family and do other stuff so they can be in bed by 10:45.
