Make The School Day Longer?

The final school bell is ringing later for many kids this year.  Some schools in Washington DC, and other cities have extended their school day.  Supporters say more class time will help students learn more and improve their test scores.  They also claim that longer school days give students more time for things like lunch and recess.  Opponents argue that kids may lose focus, and that longer hours don't always mean better grades.  They add that schools may not have the money to pay staff to work longer hours.  What do you think?

I think we should just get longer recess not longer class time and start an after school program for people that need help on homework or a concept that they didnt get in class.

Okay my oppinion is no because that means that when we have more school hours that mean that we would have to extend that school year and that also means that teachers have to stay longer. Some teachers do have kids that are our age and under and if that changes they will not see there kids as l;ong as they want and u would have to pay the teachers more MONEY and the state doesnt have that kinda of money.... last thing is that teacher would take more days off in that school ansd that is bad for the students....

I think it should be the way it is. If school is too long, kids probably get tired. Or school should be a bit shorter.

Ok. One VERY simple answer for this question. NO! Ok I don't want to hurt teacher's feelings but honestly, school from 9:20 AM to 3:38 PM from Monday to Friday is enough. Kids! Imagine school from maybe Sunday to Saturday and it starts at 8:20 AM and ends at 4:38 PM EVERY DAY! Yeah I wouldn't like that either. Well that's all for me. Bye! ^_^

I think that they shouldent add more time to school because it is to much work.I know it does help you inprove on your test scores but if you keep adding more time then we will have not that much time for our homework unless you give us a little bit of homework witch will never happen because were in 6 grade now.Tis is why i dont think that we should add more time in our school days

I think that the school days should be the same because kids should not work a lot.

I think the school day should be the same it is today.6 hours would be just fine.If we change the time school is, students might won't want to go to school. So I just want the school day to be just 6 hours.

I don't think we should have longer school days because we won't have time at home to do stuff like for example, i have to practice piano and trumpet everyday so I might not get enough time to do that. I'm also a kid so i still wanna have time to go outside and hang out with friends.

Well I think that we should have a regular school day but take away 1 hour of school so we got more homework at home to balance it out because some kids feel that they like doing their work at home.
Or do the same idea but do school work at home on a website and if some kids don’t have a computer the school or the government can provide us kids laptops for school work.

I think that they should NOT make the school day longer because being at school for 6 and 1/2 hours is already overwhelming. Kids are very tired after 6 1/2 hours of working, thinking, reading, its a lot to take in. And kids still have to do tons and tons of homework at home so that kinda counts as school. School is already to long no need to add more hours. NO MORE SCHOOL.

What I think of these longer school days is that I'm glad that they want us to learn and understand things better but I'm not a fan for longer school days, I'd rather have the schools do extra help after school like tutors for kids that need the extra help and can plan times so that it dosen't take away things like sports and other things after school, I'd rather make it a choice rather than longer school.

I honestly think that kids will get BORED if we have a LONGER school day. Like I get bored in class sometimes. I agree with Winni, I think we should have a after school program for kids that are struggling in a subject. They had one at my old school so why shouldn't we?

I don't think they should make the school days longer because people might have soccer Karate or other after school activities plus there might not be enough time to do homework.

I would not make the school day longer beacause the kids will get really bored and there would not be more activities to do. Another thing is kids will get tired and tired by time goes by. I wish the school day was a tiny bit shorter. Necause kids like us need to relax and we need to get more exersize than just having 30 min. for PE. I just think Kids need to relax and enjoy the fresh air while playing outside.

I think school should stay at six hours because the super intendent has to pay alot of money for school.

I dont think we should make the day longer. Because we might have to do something at home. Also we would have homework when we would get home so that is basically our whole day. So i don think we should make the daty longer.

You can have longer school days if you want, there just has to be no more homework. I dont care if the school days are longer you just got to keep us more active and not let us sit in are chares most of the day.

I think that we shouldn't have long school days. Kids WILL lose focus and thats true that if kids are in school longer doesnt mean that theyll have better grades. I have a buddy in DC and he says that all they do is stay at school and do lame assignments and he used to like school before they stayed longer. They should make the kids who need help and the ones that dont get their homework done stay at school longer so they can catch up with their classmates.

I think that school should just stay the same because changeing it just makes school harder to remember.
